Description

Please join the Pennsylvania Resources Council on October 24th from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens' Outdoor Garden Tent for the Community and Composters Feedback Session! We are inviting members of the City of Pittsburgh's residential composting pilot to provide in-person feedback on home composting and participating in the City-run pilot program. Additionally, we are inviting seasoned composters, business owners, and members of organizations focused on composting and food systems to problem-solve and discuss the needs for scaling composting in the region.

The first portion will be dedicated to mingling and settling in, and it will be folowed by grouping up City composting pilot participants and community composters/non-pilot members separately for guided table discussions. The composting pilot tables will focus on analyzing the Strengths and Weaknesses of the residential composting pilot and the Opportunities and Threats of home composting in general. Community composters, business owners, and food/composting organization members will be at tables discussing the needs and wants related to infrastructure, policy, and economies.

The PRC wishes to express great appreciation for our host, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and wants to recognize the support of the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council and Pasa Sustainable Agriculture in organizing and coordinating this event. We also want to recognize the City of Pittsburgh for their deployment of the SoilMillPGH composting pilot and the Office of the Councilwoman Deborah Gross for advancing sustainability and organic waste diversion.
